"In Your Ear"
Leah Jee & The Boys
Written By Lilledeshan Bose
Posted June 5, 2008
I wanted to share with you this news... We got a writeup! I’m in MKE magazine this month. How rad. We got featured. I was surprised yesterday night when my best friend sent me a text saying that my article in MKE was (and I quote) "badass"... What was supposed to be an interview that went into the "Tune Tales" article with 5 other bands turned into a feature on yours truly and details about our show at Pridefest this Sunday.
So, If you are in Milwaukee, pick up a copy of MKE and turn to page 16. If you aren't in Milwaukee and are curious about what I'm talking about, check out this link. I'm the MKE Music & Art Story - Concert Feature.
Check out what Lil Bose had to say about us:

Here's the Story:
"I don't usually tell people what the songs are about so people could judge for themselves," singer-songwriter Leah Jee says over the phone. Her song, "You Follow," was inspired by "Felicity," Jee's favorite TV show of the late 1990s.
On the show, Felicity followed her boyfriend to New York City and did everything to "make her life really compatible with his," Jee said. Most of the plot twists dealt with Felicity working around her boyfriend's life. In the end, Felicity gave him an ultimatum: make life changes for her as well.
Jee said the show's storyline paralleled what was happening in her life at the time. That whole "it's my turn now - I've sacrificed for you, so do the same for me" resonated with Jee, and she wrote the song within 15 to 20 minutes.
"A good song will be done in a matter of minutes for me," she admitted. "If it takes longer, I know it's not a hit song." What the song shows, she added, is that "inspiration can come from anywhere."
That's good, because when Jee moved from sunny California (she grew up in Pasadena) to Milwaukee to attend Marquette University, the move did more than educate her. The West Coast/Midwest vibe seeps into her music. The songs on her EP, "All the Things I Forgot to Mention," touch on pop culture, a sense of place and love.
The only constant songwriting tool Jee really needs is a Uni-ball pen. "I'm really picky about the pens I use, and it's fluid. I always keep one close to me," she said. To record ideas, she also uses her cell phone's voice memo.
"My goal is to write a song for any type of emotion that you can feel. . . . When I write a song, it should have meaning and emotion behind it, because what's the point if you're not feeling it?"

LEAH JEE ROCKS THE BBC
by Tea Krulos
Talking to Leah Jee is a cheerful experience; you get the impression she spends a great deal of time happily rocking out. She has carried this attitude with her from her home in sunny California, moving here in 2000 with a scholarship to Marquette.
Jee plays an infectious, energetic, pop-punky Orange county-y sound, a ray of South Cali supersonic sunlight that blinds the frozen no-fun-niks of the local scene. Leah Jee and The Boys (her back up band: Jim Sinicki, bass, Lior Dar, drums, Bryan Burch, guitar) have played it all, from the sweat-soaked, beer-swilling masses at Summerfest to intimate serenades on a stormy night at the Riverwest Commons. The band toured in November, playing dozens of gigs in home, sweet home, California, from San Francisco to San Diego.
“The California music scene was absolutely receptive to us, and we had a great fan response every show we played.” Jee told me.
The band will hit the road again in May for a mid-Atlantic and East Coast tour. On March 8, Jee will rock the BBC, celebrating the release of her new EP, All The Things I Forgot To Mention, recorded at Studio Z in Milwaukee over several months.
Leah Jee and the boys always give an ebullient live performance, and if the audience is lucky, they’ll hear a rockin’ cover of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” which wowed the crowd so much at one performance that they demanded the band play it a second time.
Speaking of Paula Abdul, Miss Jee will be one of three guest judges for the Alverno College Idol contest, a replica of American Idol.
Jee will certainly bring a healthy dose of Vitamin C to the contest.
Leah Jee’s CD release is March 8 at 8PM at BBC, with Evenstar, The Identity Theft, and Now You Have Audio. The CD is available online.
